Richard M. Anderson's 'Outbound: Islands in the Void' takes readers on a thought-provoking journey through the cosmos while examining Earth's future, following catastrophic environmental collapse. Set in the mid-23rd century, this sci-fi novel depicts a world where climate disruption has rendered the tropics uninhabitable, transformed the Amazon into a wasteland, and made the poles, sought-after destinations.

Following his non-fiction work 'The Evolution of Life: Big Bang to Space Colonies,' Anderson continues exploring the how and why of space exploration. The narrative follows scientists and engineers developing space ecosystems as potential habitats while also working to restore Earth's environment. These space settlers face not only the challenges of cosmic survival but also governmental corruption back home that threatens their mission.

While offering plenty to satisfy dedicated sci-fi fans, 'Outbound' remains deeply human-centered, focusing on characters' existential journeys and exploring themes of survival, identity, and human nature on this hostile universal frontier. Despite its sobering vision, the novel ultimately delivers an optimistic message about hope and recovery.

Anderson, brings scientific credibility to his vision, holding a master of arts degree in microbiology with an emphasis in molecular biology.
