5% of the US population will have a total hip replacement by age 80 and an additional 10% will have a total knee replacement. Those are big numbers that influence both athletes and non-athletes alike and creates natural curiosity on a number of fronts: Is it inevitable? Are there things we can do to reduce our odds? How quickly should we move forward when experiencing pain? How active can we be post-surgery? Today we’re fortunate to have orthopedic surgeon Dr. HJ Luks joining us to discuss these questions and more. He’s the author of Longevity, Simplified, is a great follow on Twitter, and while I’ve known hundreds of surgeons over my years as a physical therapist, Luks brings a fresh, new, myth-busting perspective that I’m certain will open your eyes to new options you’d not previously considered.
